June 8 – National Cancer Survivors Day
June 8th, 2008National Cancer Survivors Day is on Sunday, June 8th this year. Celebrations are held the first Sunday in June in communities around the world, to honor those who have survived cancer. “It is a symbolic event to demonstrate that life after cancer diagnosis can be a reality” states the official website for National Cancer Survivors Day.
Eng3 is proud to celebrate this day, and to be a part of many lives that have been affected by cancer. Fighting back cancer is critical but the very best thing you can do is take action to prevent it.
The harsh reality is that cancer is a growing concern, especially as the population ages. According to the National Cancer Institute, a person who is cancer free and 30 years old today has a 9.5 percent chance of developing Cancer by the time they are 60. That number doubles to more than 20% by the time they are 70 and more than triples, to 32%, by the time they are 80. Even more alarming is that a person who is cancer-free and 50 today, still has a 30% chance of having cancer by the time they are 80. With life expectancy getting longer every year, prevention is becoming a top priority. Eng3 supports National Cancer Survivors Day, while working towards prevention.
